The SARS George (South African Revenue Services) office will be moving to a site behind the Garden Route Mall by mid 2016.
The traffic flow patterns in George will change drastically and many of the out of town visitors will not even venture into the CBD now.
After a three-year period, characterised by delayed decisions due to management changes in the top structure at the SARS head office in Pretoria, the contract to relocate to the mall was signed on Tuesday 22 December 2015.
Chris Roodt, a director of Rainbow Place Properties 29 (PTY) Ltd, said, “We won the bid to provide office space and a turnkey fit-out for the SARS George office. The total 2 200m² ground floor development will cost R35-million and SARS is expected to take occupation on 1 June 2016. Like all government property contracts, it is a five-year period with an option to renew.”
